Announcement: Wednesday, April 5, Dr Presley will deliver a lecture on campus on behalf of Southwestern’s Land Center for Cultural Engagement entitled:
“The Theology of Vocation in the Early Church: Reflections on Tertullian, Hippolytus, and Cyprian”
The lecture will explain the perspectives on vocation reflected in the writings of Tertullian, Hippolytus, and Cyprian. These third-century fathers of the church encouraged the faithful to never separate their occupations from their pursuit of sanctification. Instead, they advocated that the entire life of the Christian should be oriented toward spiritual growth. Thier arguments also have important implications for catechesis and pastoral ministry in the early Christian world, especially prior to Constantine when Christians were attempting to fashion an identity that was distinctive from the broader Roman culture.
The lecture will be April 5, from 11:30am-12:45pm in the Seelig Banquet Room on Southwestern campus. Lunch is provided.
Hope to see you all there!
